Reservation

Online Reservations in effect as of October 1, 2005
The on-line reservation will be implemented on October 1, 2005. Please read the following notes:

Reservation System

Reservation Policy

  1. Regulations for reservations are listed in the Center Rules. User wishes to use the facility need to complete the application form and obtain approval by his/her advisor and the Center director.

  2. The "C" class users: reservation must be made through the Center personnel.
    The "B" class users: reservations are limited to business hours(week days from 8:30 am to 6 pm).
    The "A" class users: may reserve any time, 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.

  3. The user may cancel his/her reservation on-line 24 hours before the reserved time; cancellations without prior notice will incur charges of 50% of original bill. Please plan your experiment carefully and make your reservation accordingly.

  4. The absent fee will be charged if the user fails to show during the reserved time.

  5. Other users may use the instrument if the user who made the reservation fails to show within 20 minutes of the start of reserved time.

  6. It is solely your own responsibility to log out after you finish; failure to do so may result in your account being continuously charged or abused by another user.

How to make a reservation

  1. The computer located in front of room 140A at the Center has assigned for the purpose of instrumentation reservation. Any user can view the current status of the instrumentation condition and availability, the current schedule of reservation, and also allow the qualified user to make a reservation.

  2. To see reservations or availability of different instrumentations without logging into the system, go to hyperlink "Reservation Information", and select instrumentation (only XRD, SEM, TEM available for on-line reservation now).

  3. To make a reservation, you must login using your username and password. The username is the name on your application form you filled out before. The password is the same as your username for first time users; you will want to change it thereafter (for security reasons, please also avoid using your username as the password).

    * The user name and password is the same for login all instrumentation (such as TEM, SEM and XRD).

  4. To obtain the user name, all users need to contact:

    Graduate Research Assistants: Mr. Larry Lai at 4-4534 or llai@uci.edu

  5. Click on instrumentation and choose the instrument (TEM, SEM or XRD) that you would like to reserve.

  6. Left click on the date during which you want to reserve time and then check time for your reservation.

  7. Click "action" box to confirm the time/schedule again before you logout.

  8. Return computer screen to the main page for the next user.

  9. For users convenience, online reservations are available. Please go to "On-Line Reservation" or https://128.195.183.185:8443/.

How to Log-in/Log-out instrumentation

  1. The computer screen should display a login when you enter the instrumentation room. Login your user name and password to start use of the instrument. The username and password is the same as you used for on-line reservation.

  2. Also sign the login book after logging in on the computer. We still require the handwritten documentation for security and official purposes.

  3. After the usage of the particular instrumentation, remember to log-out on the instrument and sign out manually in the login book. Users have to check every checkbox and fill up blank with 0,1, or 2,.....hrs to log out.
